Box Score 2 MISENHEIMER – The Pfeiffer Falcons took advantage of quick runs in the first inning to clinch the lead and put the game away after scoring five runs in the sixth to rout the UNCP softball team, 9-1, on Wednesday in the second game of the doubleheader.
The Lady Braves (3-3) totaled four hits by Kaytee Wilson, Holly Berry, Megan Hillard and Karlee Wilson, while Pfeiffer (3-1) had nine hits with Celia Dew and Sam Jarmusch each adding two hits. Nine different Flacons scored runs and Jarmusch led the team with two RBI.
Senior Starr Gilley pitched a majority of the game as she recorded four innings in the middle. Gilley took over for junior Natalie Klemann (1-1) after the first inning and was relieved in sixth as freshman Ashlyn Reagan saw the final 2/3-innings. Klemann allowed three earned runs on four hits, but struck out two of the eight batters she faced, while Gilley stuck out four and gave up five runs on four hits.
Gilley faced the first four batters of the sixth inning with Reagan rounding out the inning with the final four batters. Pfeiffer's Sam Jarmusch (2-0) gave up one earned run on four hits in her six innings in the circle.
The Falcons opened the first inning with three quick runs as four hits were posted in the first inning. The Lady Braves cut Pfeiffer's lead to only two runs as Karlee Wilson singled through the left side to reach first. Karlee Wilson moved around the bases on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single to left field by Kaytee Wilson in the third.
Again Pfeiffer extended its lead back to three runs in the fourth as Jarmusch doubled to right field and scored on a throwing error by Megan Hillard at first. Finally in the sixth inning, the Falcons put up another five runs to split the series with UNCP. Pfeiffer notched three hits, a fielder's choice, a walk and used a fielding error at third to put runners on base.
The Lady Braves make their way back to Pembroke to host the UNCP Invitational on Friday with contests against California (Pa.) (0-0) at 4:30 p.m. followed by a battle with Kutztown (0-0) at 6:30 p.m.
