Box Score Aiken, S.C. – The UNC Pembroke men's soccer team quickly took the opening score on the goal from Kevin Vigebo, but USC Aiken's Andre Simmond knocked in both goals just 12 minutes apart in the first half as the second-seeded Pacers ousted the seventh-seeded UNC Pembroke men's soccer team from the Peach Belt Conference Tournament with a 2-1 win over the Braves on Tuesday evening at Pacer Pit.
The setback officially signaled the end of the 2014 campaign for UNCP (6-8-3) who will bid farewell to six seniors – José Hernandez, Tarnue Jallah, Brett Luccia, Sam Miles, Sid Peterson and Vigebo. With the victory, USC Aiken (13-4-1) advanced through to Friday's semifinal round where it will face third-seeded Francis Marion at 2 p.m. in Evans, Ga.
Despite being outshot 5-2 by the Pacers, UNCP put the ball in the back of the net first as Vigebo received the shot pass from 20 yards out by Ricky Chavez for a long header into the top left corner at the 12:58 mark. The score marked the only shot of the first half as Vigebo tallied both of the Black and Gold's shots – one in each stanza.
Simmond put in the equalizer off a rebounded in the 30th minute and followed it up with a shot up the middle off a free kick at the 41:03 mark to turn the favor towards the Pacers for the remainder of the game. Both goals were the only two shots in the first half, as three others registered one shot in the final 45 minutes.
Freshman Kenneth Perkinson suffered the loss after giving up both goals in his 90 minutes between the pipes for UNCP, while Joshua Poissant picked up on save for USC Aiken.
The match brought about 31 combined fouls with the Braves posting three yellow cards and 16 fouls throughout the 90 minutes.
