RELATED: No. 12 Armstrong Atlantic Seizes 8-0 Win Over Softball

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke softball team opened up the second game of the twinbill with national-ranked Armstrong Atlantic with an early lead, but the Pirates used a six-run inning in the second to take the 9-2 victory for the Peach Belt Conference sweep on Sunday afternoon.

UNCP (22-24, 8-14 PBC) ended the season on a three game losing-streak, while No. 12 Armstrong 29-11, 14-6) finished the series on a three-game winning streak.

Senior Taylor Cloninger went 2-for -3 from the place with a single to right centerfield in the first for an RBI and a base hit up the middle in the fourth. Brea Harltey, Caitlin Steel and Megan Hillard added one hit apiece to assist the Lady Braves in collecting five hits. Hartley scored one run and grabbed and RBI, while Kaytee Wilson crossed home plate during the contest for UNCP.

"Every time you take over a program, you always hear horror stories about seniors and how they are going to be, but I'm just so blessed to have these four seniors," said UNCP head coach Brittany Bennett. "I can't even put into words how I feel about them because it wouldn't be enough."

Armstrong finished the game with 12 hits as Lacye Walker, Haley Ellis, Andrea Dalton and Hannah Reppert each posted two hits. Walked scored two runs, while Kat Vogler and Reppert each tallied two RBI.

Senior Katy Austin (0-4) pitched a complete game after throwing for all seven innings and allowing 12 hits, nine runs (six earned) and seven walks for the Black and Gold. Tori Bates also went all seven inning for the Pirates as she gave up five hits, two runs (one earned) and notched one strikeout.

Despite Armstrong collecting one run in the first, Wilson opened the bottom of the first after reaching on an error and scored on Hartley's double to left center field to tie the score. The Lady Braves took its only lead of the game after Cloninger's base hit brought in Hartley for the 2-1 score.

Armstrong delivered a six-run inning for the final lead with a 7-2 score and chipped in another run in the fourth and fifth inning for the sweep.
