PEMBROKE – After leading the UNC Pembroke volleyball team to a 3-2 record, including a perfect 3-0 run through the GRU Augusta Invitational on Friday and Saturday, sophomore setter Sabrina Gonzalez has been named this week's UNCP Athlete of the Week, athletics department officials announced Thursday.

Gonzalez, an Elizabeth City native totaled 186 assists (37.2/match), 67 digs (13.4/match), eight block assists and four service aces as UNCP tallied a successful week on the court. Her week included a pair of 50-plus dig assist showings in 5-set wins over Carson-Newman (58) and Emmanuel (50), as well as a 40-assist outing in the GRU Augusta Invitational opener with Paine.

A two-year starter for the Braves, Gonzalez has amassed 617 assists and 528 digs in 49 career matches and 171 sets. She has recorded seven double-double outings over the last two seasons, including a 50-assist, 22-dig performance against Emmanuel.
