Flagler Edges Out Volleyball, 3-0

PEMBROKE -
Despite holding the visiting Flagler Saints to a .149 hitting percentage and forcing 29 errors, the UNC Pembroke volleyball team was shut out, 3-0, in Peach Belt Conference action on Saturday afternoon on Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court inside the English E. Jones Center. The set scores were 25-20, 25-12 and 25-20.

Flagler's (15-5, 8-3 PBC) defense proved to be too much for UNCP (5-19, 2-10) as the Braves were out-dug, 62-52. The Black and Gold out-blocked the Saints, 6-4, as junior Caroline Pridgen collected a trio of block assists. Senior Nicole Mathews picked up a team-best nine kills and led the team with 14 digs, while Ka'asha Jefferies also had double-digit digs with 12.

The Braves were able to keep pace with the Saints throughout the beginning of the first set despite allowing an early lead, but Flagler logged 10 kills to take the set. Flagler hit .407 in the second set and utilized eight hitting errors by the Braves to go ahead with a two-set lead. UNCP evened up the score late in the third set and, despite notching 10 kills, the Saints finished out the set for the win.

Flagler's Taja Valmyr and Sara Davis shared a team-high with nine kills, while Caitlyn Kovach posted 15 digs and Tara Savisky had 30 assists.

UNCP will look to regroup on the road when it travels to Aiken, S.C., for a PBC matchup against USC Aiken (20-3, 9-3) inside the Convocation Center on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
