PEMBROKE – Jordan Masiri hit the back of the net just more than four minutes in to give visiting USC Aiken an early 1-0 advantage, and the Pacers fought off a flurry of scoring opportunities by the UNC Pembroke men's soccer team in the second half on the way to a key 2-0 win over the Braves on Wednesday evening at Varsity Grounds.
The setback marred Senior Night for the Braves (5-8-2, 1-6-2 PBC) who saw their season come to a close at home. It was the third-straight win for USC Aiken (7-4-3, 4-3-1) who assured itself a spot in next month's Peach Belt Conference Tournament with the triumph.
Jordan Walshaw registered a team-best four shots for the hosts who finished with a 7-6 advantage in the shots on goal column on the evening. Kenneth Perkinson tallied four saves in the setback to highlight the defensive effort for the Black & Gold. Misiri and Andre Simmond both scored goals to lead the Pacers who also got a seven-save performance from goalkeeper Andre Bernardini.
USC Aiken took advantage of a blinding rainstorm to knock in its first goal of the night as Nathan Shanko fed Misiri on a give-and-go inside the penalty area and Misiri fired a bouncing shot past a diving Perkinson. The Braves got most of the run of play in the second stanza, but could not get themselves off the mark. A penalty kick goal with just more than three minutes left gave the visitors the insurance score they needed to seal the outcome.
