Men’s Soccer Trio Named To PBC All-Academic Team

2016 PBC Men's Soccer All-Academic Team

AUGUSTA, Ga. – UNC Pembroke men's soccer players Tyler Santee, Branco Theis and Jordan Walshaw were among 48 student-athletes named to the Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer All-Academic Team, the league office announced recently.

The team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee the program.

Santee, a Huntersville product, was one of just two student-athletes on the distinguished listing with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. An applied physics major, Santee has started in all 15 games in the defense for the Braves this season and has logged nearly 1,400 minutes of playing time. Offensively, he has registered five shots, including three on target.

Theis, one of three seniors on the current edition of the Braves, maintains a 3.71 GPA as a business administration major at UNCP. He missed the first three games of the season while recovering from offseason surgery, but has started each of the last 12 games for the Braves and has registered five assists, including three in a tough 5-4 loss to North Georgia at home last weekend.

Walshaw has scored a league-best 13 goals this season and ranks second in the PBC with 30 points (four assists) as well. The Sheffield, England, product has scored multiple goals in five outings this season, and produced two goals and one assist in wins over Clayton State and Georgia Southwestern. He sports a 3.31 GPA in exercise & sports science at UNCP.
