AIKEN, S.C. – Traveling into hostile territory for the season's first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) contest, the UNC Pembroke volleyball team fell in straight sets to USC Aiken Friday night at the Convocation Center.
The Braves (1-10, 0-1 PBC) see their losing streak pushed to four matches, while the Pacers (8-1, 1-0 PBC) have now won five contests in a row after the 25-11, 25-12, 25-11 triumph.
A season-low -.130 hitting percentage was too much to overcome for the Black & Gold, who surrendered 13 service aces to the hosts. USC Aiken tallied 32 kills to UNCP's 12 and held a 66-37 advantage in digs. The Braves were out blocked seven to two and dished out just 11 assists, while the Pacers racked up 32.
Caroline Pridgen led all Braves with four kills, while
Alicia Paeplow had three kills, two assists and five digs.
Bailee Jones was the team leader in assists with nine and
Cayce Bell dug the ball a team-high 13 times.
The Black & Gold wrap up the two-day road trip with a 2 p.m. tilt at Lander Saturday in Horne Arena. The Bearcats (9-0, 1-0 PBC) remained undefeated with a 3-1 victory over Francis Marion Friday. Lander won a pair of straight-set matches over UNCP last season.
