GAFFNEY, S.C. – Just two days removed from a dual meet with St. Andrews, an exhausted UNC Pembroke swimming and diving team took to the water Saturday, falling to Limestone and Emmanuel in a tri-meet at the Timken Aquatic Center in Gaffney.
Competing in just seven events, compared to 11 in Thursday's meet, the Braves best finish Saturday was a third-place result in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. The contingent of
Gina Zhang,
Taylor Lusk,
Sonyaliz Goveo and
Kelsey Williams touched in a time of 1:58.33.
Zhang grabbed a pair of sixth-place finishes in her two individual events, the 200 Individual Medley (2:29.48) and the 500 Freestyle (5:54.82). Williams competed in just one individual event, the 200 Freestyle, placing sixth in 2:23.42.
Just like Zhang, Goveo racked up two sixth-place finishes, hers in the 50 Freestyle (28.87) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:30.64).
Emmaline Mansfield touched seventh in the 200 Freestyle (3:13.86) and eighth in the 50 Freestyle (36.40), while Lusk was one spot ahead of Mansfield in the 50 Freestyle (32.05).
Alexys Pagan rounded out the UNCP day with a sixth-place finish in the 100 Backstroke in 1:28.52.
The inaugural season of the Braves swimming and diving program will come to a close Jan. 28 in a tri-meet with Mars Hill and St. Andrews. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. at Harrell Pool in Mars Hill, North Carolina.
