How It Happened
Box Score/Play-by-Play
FIRST HALF
- Weisner scored her first of two goals on the night just less than eight minutes into the contest when she collected a loose ball in the penalty area and skipped a ball over the touch line.
-
Katie Watkins made it a 2-0 game in the 24th minute after a laser shot by
Stacey Scott ricocheted off of Converse goalkeeper Rachel Stafford and the UNCP senior punched in the rebound.
-
Kimsey Collins netted her second goal in as many games in the 33rd minute, firing a shot past Stafford from point blank range.
- The Black & Gold out-shot the Valkyries, 11-2, in the opening half, including a 7-1 advantage in the shots on goal column.
SECOND HALF
- Nicole Doolittle spoiled the shutout for the Braves just less than five minutes into the second half when she headed a well-placed corner kick from Melissa Carlyle into the back of the net.
- Weisner padded the UNCP lead back out to a trio of goals 15 minutes later when she took a pass from
Shannon O'Neill, dribbled past a defender and fired a shot into the top shelf.
- Collins added her second goal of the night in the 85th minute, collecting a rebound off of a
Carly Rochelle blast and knocking it past Converse backup netminder Darian Bankston.
NOTABLES
- Monday evening's victory was the third win in four days for the Braves, who also improved to 4-2-0 away from Lumbee River EMC Stadium in 2017.
- It was the second multi-goal game of Weisner's career in Pembroke, and the first since she tallied two goals and an assist against Georgia Southwestern on Sept. 12, 2015.
- Collins registered her first career multi-goal outing on Monday, just two days after scoring her first collegiate goal in a 3-0 win over Georgia Southwestern on Saturday in Pembroke.
- Converse's early second-half goal snapped a scoreless streak by the UNCP defense that spanned more 237 minutes. Prior to that score, the last time a UNCP opponent had found the back of the net was in the 82nd minute of the Braves' 2-1 setback to then-No. 2 Columbus State on Sept. 23.
UP NEXT
UNCP will close out a brutal 7-day, 4-game stretch on Wednesday when it heads to Florence, S.C. to battle Peach Belt Conference foe Francis Marion (3-4-0, 0-3-0 PBC). The Braves are just 1-4-0 all-time against the Patriots, but recorded a 4-1 win over FMU last season – the first regular season meeting between the two clubs since the FMU program made the transition back from NCAA Division I following the 2015 campaign.
