Aquia Jones unleashed at least seven kills for the 11th time in her 19 matches played, but visiting Lander stifled the UNC Pembroke volleyball squad in a straight-sets victory Saturday afternoon in Pembroke.

FIRST SET

Aquia Jones kill brought the Braves to within four, down 12-8, but Lander rattled off a 9-0 run to grab a commanding 21-8 lead and run away with a 25-10 victory.
SECOND SET
-The first three points of the set went to the Black & Gold (

Aquia Jones kill) and the hosts led 5-3 on a kill by
Madelyn Ashwell.
-The Bearcats went on a 12-1 run to go out front 15-6, but UNCP battled back with a 5-0 run of its own to pull within one at 20-19.
-However, the final five points of the set went to Lander to give the guests a 25-19 set win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
THIRD SET
-Lander scored early and often the third and final set and jumped out to a 10-2 lead, but the Braves used a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to four at 11-7.
-Up 17-11, the Bearcats claimed the final eight points of the match to win the third set 25-11 and the match 3-0.

Aquia Jones paced the Braves with eight kills and tacked on a pair of digs.

Makaylah Elliott added five kills, while Ashwell put down four of her own. Elliott added a service ace and a block assist and Ashwell had a trio of block assists and two digs.

Bailee Jones dished out a team-best 12 assists and added eight digs, while
Cayce Bell had 12 digs from her libero position.

The Braves conclude a three-match home stand with a Tuesday battle against USC Aiken to kick off a busy homecoming week at UNCP. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. The Pacers (20-2, 6-0 PBC) sit atop the PBC standings and have won 20-straight matches since Sept. 1. USC Aiken leads the all-time series 52-13 over the Black & Gold, including 12-straight victories.
