Swimming Breaks 12 Personal Bests, Five School Records Also Fall

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The UNC Pembroke swimming team recorded its most lopsided victory in program history Saturday at the Barton Tri-Meet and also saw 12 swimmers break their personal best times and five school records go down in a 136-5 victory over William Peace. Host Barton toppled the Braves by a 141-49 score.

Freshman Abigail Wood picked up her fourth event win of the season in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:03.99. Wood also set a new school record in the 100-yard butterfly by touching in 1:04.14, which was good for a runner-up finish.

Two school standards fell at the hands of Megan Hunter, as the freshman set new records in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:47.85) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:42.90). Both times gave Hunter a second-place finish in the event.

Freshman Victoria Brousseau etched her name in the UNCP record book with a time of 1:18.30 in the 100-yard breaststroke in a third-place effort.

Alexys Pagan, Priyanka Kamath and Karina Ramosbarbosa each set a pair of new personal bests, with Pagan's coming in the 50-yard freestyle (32.77) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:22.61). Kamath set new personal standards in the 50-yard freestyle (33.82) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:20.54), while Ramosbarbosa toppled her previous bests in the 50-yard freestyle (29.48) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:05.92).

The trio of Kelsey Williams, Mary Thorn and Taylor Lusk set one new personal best each on Saturday at the Harrison Family YMCA. Williams' broke her previous best time in the 200-yard freestyle (2:19.03), Thorn's came in the 50-yard freestyle (33.30) and Lusk set a new personal best in the 100-yard backstroke (1:37.67).

The 200-yard medley relay team of Wood, Selena Rodriguez, Sonyaliz Goveo and Hunter also set a new school record in a time of 2:04.30 in a runner-up effort.

The Braves are back in the pool next Saturday at Greensboro at 1 p.m. The Pride (1-2) picked up a 103-62 victory over Guilford on Saturday. Last season, UNCP defeated Greensboro 78-63 for its first win in program history.
