GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Pembroke swimming squad touched first in seven of the 11 events on Saturday at the Greensboro Meet and rolled to four victories atop host Greensboro, Guilford, LaGrange and Randolph by a combined 509-107 score.
The Braves improve to 5-2 this season and pick up multiple victories on the same day for the first time in program history.
UNCP hit the pool in stride by winning the day's first event, the 200-yard medley relay. The foursome of
Abigail Wood,
Selena Rodriguez,
Sonyaliz Goveo and Victoria Brousseau touched in 1:55.08.
Freshman
Megan Hunter grabbed the squad's second victory of the day in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:10.44 and picked up her second first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:51.95.
The freshman Wood won two events of her own to give her a team-high six on the season. Wood won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:05.06 and touched first in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:03.87.
Brousseau made it a trio of freshman victories on Saturday as the Norristown, Pennsylvania native claimed the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:17.28, which was just over a second faster than her teammate Rodriguez, who finished second.
The Black & Gold wrapped up the day with another relay victory, this time in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the team of Goveo, Brousseau,
Karina Ramosbarbosa and
Kelsey Williams (1:55.65).
UNCP will see the fall portion of its schedule come to a close next weekend at the Ferrum Tri-Meet and the Sweet Briar Tri-Meet. The Braves will head to Ferrum, Virginia to battle the host Panthers and Greensboro on Friday, Nov. 3 before traveling to Sweet Briar, Virginia on Saturday, Nov. 4 to take on the host Vixen and Pfeiffer.
