MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Down two sets to none, the seventh-seeded UNC Pembroke volleyball team bounced back with a 25-23, set-three victory, but could not hold off the second-seeded USC Aiken Pacers in the fourth set of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday afternoon in Milledgeville.

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST SET
-The Pacers used a 7-1 run to turn a 6-5 edge into a commanding 13-6 advantage before coasting to a 25-14, opening-set victory, including the final three points on a pair of kills and a service ace.
SECOND SET
-UNCP led 2-1 early, but USC Aiken rattled off 13 of the next 15 points to grab a 14-4 lead.
-The Braves put together a 5-0 run of their own to cut the deficit to four at 22-18, but the Pacers claimed three of the last four points on a kill and two UNCP attack errors to close out the set, 25-19.
THIRD SET
-The Black & Gold took the court with energy not found in sets one and two and used a 5-1 run to erase a 19-17 deficit and put UNCP on top, 22-20.
-USC Aiken picked up a kill on the Braves' first set point to pull within one, but
Madelyn Ashwell unleashed a kill from
Bailee Jones to give UNCP a 25-23 victory.
FOURTH SET
-Knotted at 12-12, the Black & Gold looked poised to fight for a fifth set, but the Pacers went on a 4-0 run to lead 16-12 and scored five of the final six points in the set to win 25-18.
NOTABLES
-The Braves' .244 attack percentage in the third set matched USC Aiken's .244 first-set mark, which was the highest clip of the match on both sides. UNCP hit .024 or worse in the other three stanzas.
-
Makaylah Elliott paced the Black & Gold with 10 kills, which marked the 10th time this season that the sophomore has logged double-digit kills. Elliott tacked on four block assists and one dig.
-April Tankersley uncorked seven kills with a .316 attack percentage and added a match-high six block assists.
-Setters
Bailee Jones and Miranda Cada handed out 18 and 11 assists, respectively, while Cada tacked on 10 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
-In her last match as a Brave, senior
Cayce Bell logged a team-high 23 digs and Ashwell added 19 digs and five kills. Bell wraps up her UNCP career with 1,171 digs.
-UNCP held a 10.5-7 edge in blocks, but USC Aiken had more kills (58-34), assists (56-32), service aces (7-0) and digs (92-75).
-The Pacers saw a trio of players record a double-double: Allie Smith (12 kills, 16 digs), Emily Teelon (34 assists, 13 digs) and Rebecca Martinez (11 assists, 31 digs).
