WINGATE – The UNC Pembroke women's basketball squad led by as many as nine midway through the second quarter, but host and No. 6 Wingate outscored the Braves 24-9 in the third quarter and used 25 points from Marta Miscenko to run past the Black & Gold 73-56 on Sunday afternoon at Cuddy Arena.

FIRST QUARTER
-Wingate scored the game's first six points and led 13-7 before the Braves rattled off a 10-0 run, including five points from Alecia Hardy, to take a 17-13 lead with under two minutes on the clock.
-A pair of Aliyah Farmer free throws with six ticks left in the quarter handed UNCP a 21-18 lead at the end of one quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
-The Braves used a 6-0 run to begin the second stanza, capped off by a Kasey Drayton jumper at the 6:06 mark to give the guests their largest lead of the game at 27-18.
-Wingate responded with 14 of the next 16 points to take a three-point lead, but the Black & Gold scored the final five points of the period to haul a 34-32 lead into the locker room.
THIRD QUARTER
-UNCP did not score until the clock showed 6:37 in the third, which allowed the Bulldogs to score 11-straight points and take a lead they did not relinquish.
-Two freebies at the charity stripe with one second on the clock gave the hosts their largest lead of the quarter at 56-43.
FOURTH QUARTER
-Farmer brought the Braves within 11 with a jumper at the 2:02 mark, but that's as close as UNCP came in the fourth before Wingate scored six-straight points to end the game.
NOTABLES
-The setback marks the third-consecutive season that the Braves have lost their third game of the campaign after starting 2-0.
-The Braves shot just 37 percent from the field in the second half after converting at over 52 percent in the first two quarters.
-Farmer's 13 points led the Braves and gives her 13 or more points in two of the three games this season. Farmer also came down with five rebounds and picked up one steal and one block.
-Hardy chipped in 12 points and three steals, while
Nyla Allen added nine points and five boards.
-Wingate turned a season-high 22 UNCP turnovers into 28 points put back 17 second-chance points on 14 offensive rebounds.
-Miscenko poured in a game-high 25 points for the Bulldogs on 10-of-16 shooting and also grabbed a game-best eight rebounds in 29 minutes of action.

The Braves lift the lid on Peach Belt Conference play with a road tilt on Saturday at Young Harris. Tipoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. at the Recreation and Fitness Center in the mountains of north Georgia. The Mountain Lions (3-3) have won two straight after starting the season 1-3. UNCP won the only metting between the schools last season in a 63-54 affair in Pembroke.
