YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The UNC Pembroke women's basketball team led by six with just over seven minutes to play in the game, but host Young Harris used an 11-0 run to take the lead and saw a potential game-winning 3-pointer from
Ebone Stevens clang off the iron as time expired to send the Black & Gold home with a loss in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) opener for both squads.

FIRST QUARTER
-Neither team led by more than four in the opening stanza and the Braves' defense held the Mountain Lions to just 22.2 percent shooting from the field.
-There were a total of nine made baskets in the first, as Young Harris led a low-scoring affair 12-11 after 10 minutes of play.
SECOND QUARTER
-Young Harris took its largest lead of the day at the 3:11 mark of the second when Kaela Patrick knocked down a 3-pointer to cap off an 8-2 Mountain Lion run.
-The Braves scored the final 10 points of the quarter beginning at the 2:51 mark, including a pair of long balls from Stevens and Melanie Horne, to haul a 31-26 lead into the locker rooms.
THIRD QUARTER
-Horne buried another 3-pointer to begin the third quarter, which handed the Black & Gold its largest lead of the game at 34-26.
-UNCP led by eight as late as 1:14 to play in the period after a 6-0 run, but Young Harris' Ashlyn Ellison saw two freebies go through the net with 44 ticks on the clock to cut the UNCP lead to six with 10 minutes to play.
FOURTH QUARTER
-A Farmer layup put the Braves up six with 7:30 showing on the clock before Young Harris went on an 11-0 run over the next 2:48 to match its largest lead of the game at 54-49.
-A 7-2 UNCP run capped off by a
Nyla Allen jumper with 1:50 to play brought the game even at 56-56, but Sara Jorgensen rattled home her sixth 3-pointer of the game to put Young Harris up 59-56 with under a minute to play.
-Farmer went 1-for-2 at the free throw line to cut the deficit to one with 16 ticks left and Horne converted two freebies to with 10 seconds to play to bring the deficit back to one after a pair of made free throws from the Mountain Lions.
-Young Harris made the first freebie at the other end but missed the second, which allowed Stevens' an open look at the game-winner, but her shot was mere inches off the mark at the buzzer.
NOTABLES
-The Braves fall to 6-20 all-time in PBC openers and 1-8 in league openers that are played away from home.
-Horne scored a season-best 16 points to pace the Black & Gold, including a 4-for-9 mark from behind the arc. She is now averaging a team-best 13.0 points per game.
-Farmer chipped in 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting and logged her first-career double-double with a team-best 11 rebounds.
-UNCP shot 39.6 percent from the field and limited Young Harris to a 32.1-percent clip shooting. The Braves' outrebounded the hosts 42-31, including 15 offensive boards that turned into 17 second-chance points.
-The Mountain Lions took advantage of 25 UNCP turnovers with 30 points on the other end, while the Braves' managed just 17 points off 18 Young Harris miscues.
-YHC's Jorgensen logged a game-high 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while two other Mountain Lions (Ellison and Ge'Naisha Robinson) chipped in double-digit points.

The Braves play their final non-conference game of the regular season Sunday, December 10 when they trek to Hickory, North Carolina for a matchup against Lenoir-Rhyne. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. at the Shuford Memorial Gymnasium. The Bears (4-4) had won two straight games before a 64-54 setback to Anderson on Saturday afternoon. Sunday will mark the first meeting between the Bears and Braves since 2009. Lenoir-Rhyne has won four of the five meetings since 1992.
