PEMBROKE
– Visiting Georgia College used a four-run fourth inning to build a 7-0 advantage, and then held off a middle-inning rally by the UNC Pembroke baseball team to key a series-clinching 9-6 win over the Braves on Sunday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field.

Newcomers Luke Jackson (1-for-3, 2 R) and Alex Simpson (1-for-3, BB) both cashed in on their first home runs of the season to pace the Braves (16-9, 2-6 PBC), while Roberto Rivera singled twice on five trips to the plate to register the only multi-hit day at the plate for the hosts.

Brandon Benson (2-for-5) drove in five runs, including a key grand slam in the fourth, to pace Georgia College (16-6, 5-3), but the Bobcats got multi-hit days from five other players in the victory as well. Leadoff hitter Cal Gentry walked and scored three times on a 3-for-5 plate performance for the visitors.

Matt Fuhr (3-2) yielded seven earned runs on eight hits and a trio of walks in just 3-1/3 innings to take the loss for UNCP. Perry Keith (2-1) struck out two and scattered four earned runs and six hits over 5-1/3 innings from the hill to grab the win for the Bobcats.

Georgia College used a sac fly in the first to grab the early lead, but had pushed its advantage out to 3-0 in the third before Benson's grand slam in the fourth made it a 7-0 game. The Braves pushed their first run across in the home half of the fourth, but rallied for three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to pull within striking distance.

Wesley Wommack's 2-run homer in the seventh would give Georgia College a pair of insurance runs.
