Hank Simpson logged his second save of the season with three innings of relief. Dylan Brown (2-5) yielded five runs (three earned) on six hits and eight walks to take the loss for the hosts.
Barron's two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the first inning allowed Georgia Southwestern to grab a quick 2-0 lead, but the Braves pushed across lone runs in the next three innings to grab a lead they would not relinquish. The Black & Gold added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth thanks to a costly fielding error and a walk with the bases loaded, and padded its lead out to 7-2 on Beaver's RBI knock with two outs in the eighth.
Georgia Southwestern put its first two batters aboard in the ninth and eventually pushed three runs across the plate thanks to a pair of hits and an ill-timed throwing error.
The squads will play the series rubber game on Sunday at Hurricane Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
