Jesse Stinnett struck out eight and yielded just two hits on the way to his first career complete game shutout, and the UNC Pembroke baseball team put up 4-spots in the second and seventh innings on the way to its school-record 13
th-straight victory on Sunday morning at Tom J. New Field.
The Braves (34-11) have now won 18 of their last 20 contests, including eight consecutive victories away from Pembroke. It was the 10
th loss in the last 14 outings for the Cobras (22-21).
Luke Jackson doubled and drove in a pair of runs on a 2-for-4 outing to lead UNCP, while
Roberto Rivera continued his hot streak at the plate by driving in a run and scoring once on a 2-for-4 tally.
River Ryan (1-for-3) plated a pair of runs for the visitors as well.
Robert Lybrand and Clint Allen both registered fifth-inning singles to pace the hosts.
Stinnett (5-3) did not surrender a hit in his first four innings of work, and faced four or less batters in six of the seven frames of the contest. He also retired the sides in order in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings. Griffin Hollifield (2-2) yielded four runs (three earned) on four hits and a pair of walks in three innings from the hill to take the loss for the Cobras.
Drew Beaver's one-out RBI single sparked a 4-run second inning for the Braves that gave them the lead for good, but the Black & Gold plated four insurance runs in the seventh on consecutive RBI at-bats by Ryan, Rivera, Jackson and
Jarratt Mobley.
