NEWBERRY, S.C. – Day two of the Newberry College Invitational saw the UNC Pembroke volleyball team drop a pair of matches, first to Coker and then North Greenville to wrap up the opening weekend of the 2017 season.
MATCH 1
Score: Coker 3, UNC Pembroke 0 (28-30, 9-25, 22-25)

FIRST SET
-Trailing 16-6, the Braves scored 17 of the next 21 points to grab hold of a 23-20 advantage.
-Coker erased a trio of UNCP match points at 24-23, 25-24 and 26-25 before taking advantage of its third match point at 29-28.
-The Black & Gold held a slim 16-15 advantage in kills in the opening set and hit .151 as a team, compared to Coker's .188.
SECOND SET
-Coker jumped out to a 16-5 lead and never looked back despite only eight kills in the entire set.
THIRD SET
-Knotted at 3-3, Coker went on a mini 4-0 run to take a 7-3 lead, but UNCP answered with four of the next five to pull within one at 8-7.
-The Braves were down one as late as 16-15 and scored three-straight down 24-19 to get within two, but the Cobras finished the job on a kill by Madison Bingle.
KEY STATS

Amber Tyndall led the Braves in kills (11) for the second time in the first three matches, as the transfer hit .200 on 30 total attacks.

Madelyn Ashwell added seven kills, while
Makaylah Elliott and freshman
Tyler Fitzpatrick each tacked on four kills. It was Fitzpatrick's first action in a Black & Gold uniform.

Cayce Bell held down the back row with a team-high 19 digs and junior
Bailee Jones dished out a team-best 15 assists to go along with nine digs of her own.
-The Braves had more digs (63-58) and total attacks (132-199) than Coker and also held a 6-4 advantage in service aces.

FIRST SET
-North Greenville used an 8-1 run to stake claim to a 13-6 lead before the Braves battled back and pulled within two at 15-13 on a kill from Tyndall.
-The Crusaders closed the set on a 10-3 run, including five kills in their final six points.
SECOND SET
-Back-to-back attack errors from North Greenville gave the Black & Gold a 4-3 advantage after a pair of kills from Elliott and
Michelle Voyer to begin the set.
-A 5-0 run from the Crusaders built their lead to 12-6 and the Braves couldn't pull closer than five for the remainder of the set.
THIRD SET
-Trialing 22-10, UNCP put together an 8-1 run to claw its way back to within three at 23-20.
-Two kills from North Greenville's Katie McManaway in the next three points put a lock on the set and the match for the Crusaders.
-The Braves had a team-best nine kills in the final set, hitting .091 as a team.
KEY STATS
-UNCP improved its hitting percentage in each set and had nine blocks to North Greenville's four.
-Voyer led all Braves with seven kills and a .261 hitting percentage, while tacking on one block.
-The libero Bell had 11 digs and was followed closely by Jones (8) and Tyndall (7). Jones had a team-high 10 assists, while freshman
Miranda Cada handed out six.
