Soccer Routs Coker, Picks Up First Win Of Campaign

PEMBROKEKate Weisner punched in the eventual game-winning goal in the 29th minute, but the UNC Pembroke soccer team scored three more times in the second half to fuel a 4-0 blanking of Coker on Monday evening at the Coker Athletic Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF
- Nine of UNCP's 10 shots in the opening half were on target, including Weisner's header off of a Kristina Stevenson corner kick at the 28:21 mark.  
- The Cobras mustered just four shots during the first 45 minutes of play, but all of them were on target. However, preseason all-Peach Belt Conference goalkeeper Gina Ryan was up to the task on all four scoring opportunities for the hosts.
- UNCP out-shot the Cobras by a 5-0 count over the final 10 minutes of the first stanza.

SECOND HALF
- Preseason all-PBC honoree Stacey Scott logged her first goal of the season just 5-1/2 minutes into the second half when she headed a cross from Alexis Pittman into the back of the net.
- Stevenson and freshman Rilee Seering scored 83 seconds apart a short time later to cap the scoring on the night. Scott assisted on each of those goals.
- Stevenson made it a 3-0 game at the 57:26 mark off an assist from Scott, and Scott picked up her second assist of the contest at 58:49 when she fed a through-ball to Seering.

NOTABLES
- Scott (2 G, 1 A)registered her first two-assist game since her freshman season (2015) when she logged a pair of them in a win over Mount Olive.
- Stevenson (1 G, 1 A) turned in her second career multi-point game, and the first since tallying a pair of assists against Francis Marion last season.
- Gina Ryan picked up five saves in just more than 71 minutes between the pipes for UNCP, while Courtney Almon played the final 18 minutes in goal for the visitors and came away with one save.
- Coker goalkeeper Samantha Hoffman registered nine saves on the night to provide all of the highlights for the Cobras.

UP NEXT
The Braves will continue a five-game road trip on Saturday when they head to northwest South Carolina to take on Anderson (0-0-1) at Trojan Stadium. Saturday's matchup will mark the first meeting in women's soccer between the two schools which are separated by just more than 245 miles.
