SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Freshman
Bianca Bateman shattered the school record in the 100 Fly by nearly a second, and then was a part of two school record-breaking relay performances, to highlight action for the UNC Pembroke swimming & diving team on the opening day of the 8
th Annual Converse Women's Invite on Friday evening.
Bateman posted a time of 1:03.6 on the way to a sixth-place finish in the 100 Fly, and then teamed up with
Victoria Brousseau and fellow newcomers
Jaycie Knight and
Jaiden Estrada to crush the school record in the 400 Medley Relay by almost six seconds.
The quartet eclipsed another school record to cap off the night, registering a time of 1:50.2 – a mark 0.34 seconds better than the previous program best that was established just six months ago.
The Braves will continue action inside the Marsha H. Gibbs Fieldhouse on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Nine events are scheduled to be contested, including the 100 Back, 200 Breast and 400 Free Relay.
