Seering’s Golden Goal Pushes Soccer Past No. 25 North Georgia

PEMBROKE – Rilee Seering's 97th minute Golden Goal off a corner kick from Christine Rolfe broke a 0-0 stalemate and lifted the UNC Pembroke soccer team to a 1-0 upset of 25th-ranked North Georgia on Tuesday afternoon at Lumbee River EMC Stadium.
 
The triumph marked the first home victory for the Braves (8-4-1, 5-3-1 PBC) over the Nighthawks since 2012, and kept the Black & Gold in the hunt to host the opening round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on Tuesday. North Georgia (10-3-1, 6-2-1) fell to 3-2-1 away from Dahlonega, Ga., this season, and is now 1-2-1 in its last four outings.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
97' Christine Rolfe laced a corner kick service into the center of the penalty area and Rilee Seering hit a one-timer off of her right foot past UNG goalkeeper Hannah Goudy who was camped by the near post. UNCP 1, UNCP 0
 
TOP BRAVES
+ Riley Seering netted her first goal of the season, and found the back of the net for the first time since a win at Coker on September 4 of last season.
+ Freshman Bree Mason logged a team-best four shots, including three shots on goal. Riley Seering and Kristina Stevenson turned in three shots apiece.
+ Junior Gina Ryan tallied four saves on the way to tacking up her seventh shutout of the season. The clean sheet also marked her program-best 25th career shutout as well.
 
NOTABLES
+ Tuesday's victory marked the second-straight win for the Black & Gold in their series with North Georgia, but the first triumph over the Nighthawks in Pembroke since Oct. 13, 2012. The Braves are now 5-0-2 against UNG at Lumbee River EMC Stadium.
+ UNCP has not allowed a goal in seven games at Lumbee River EMC Stadium this season – a span of nearly 637 minutes.
+ Thirteen of the 16 games in the series have been decided by one goal or less, including three meetings that resulted in draws. It was the second-straight 1-0 victory in the series for the Braves.
 
 
UP NEXT
The Braves will close out the regular season portion of their 2018 schedule on Friday when they suit up to host Young Harris (5-7-0, 3-5-0 PBC) in a 2 p.m. Senior Day contest at Lumbee River EMC Stadium. UNCP will honor its senior class prior to kickoff.
