Volleyball Concludes Season With Loss At Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team hit better than .520 on the way to a come-from-behind win in the second set, but Flagler benefited from 21 attack errors in the last two sets to key a 3-1 win (25-22, 26-28, 25-21, 25-12) over the Braves on Saturday afternoon in Flagler Gymnasium.

The setback put the wraps on the 2018 campaign for the Black & Gold (10-21, 0-12 PBC) who will return most of its squad for the 2019 season. It was the second-straight victory for the Saints (12-14, 6-6) who will open up Peach Belt Conference Tournament play on November 10 against fourth-seeded Georgia College.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 22-25 Flagler hit .353 and committed just four attack errors to key the win in the opening set. UNCP led 8-3 after a kill from Tyler Fitzpatrick, but the hosts strung together four-straight points to climb back in it. The Braves took an 18-17 advantage on a Shannon Skryd kill, but the Saints answered with a 4-0 run to take the lead for good.
SET 2 I 28-26 The Braves committed just three attack errors and hit .529 to fuel a tight win in set two. Ashley Caesar gave the visitors a 12-8 edge on a kill midway through, but Flagler hung around and eventually grabbed a 23-22 lead on a ball-handling error by the Black & Gold. Flagler served for set point after a kill by Karlie Redfern put the Saints up, 26-25, but it was the Braves that put the set in their pocket on consecutive kills by Savannah Bean, Shannon Skryd and Ashley Caesar.
SET 3 I 21-25 Neither team posted a particularly impressive attack percentage in the third set as the lead changed hands four times until the Saints put together a late run to climb into the driver's seat for the afternoon. UNCP took its final lead of the set, 14-13, on an attack error by the Saints, but Flagler rebounded with a 10-3 run to storm ahead for good.
SET 3 I 12-25 The Saints hit .458 in the fourth and final set and committed just two attack errors to clinch the match. The Braves looked to have all the tools to erase an early deficit but, after Tyler Fitzpatrick's kill pulled the visitors to within two points, 7-5, the Saints tacked up seven of the next eight points to pad their advantage. A late 6-1 run by Flagler finished off the day.
