Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 18 Men’s Basketball Cruises To 20th Victory Of Season

PEMBROKE – The 18th-ranked UNC Pembroke men's basketball team shot 73 percent from the field on the way to a season-high 63 points in the opening half and then hit cruise control as the Braves reached the 20-win plateau for the fourth time in six seasons with a 101-68 victory over visiting North Georgia on Sunday.

It was the sixth-straight victory for the Braves (20-4, 16-2 PBC) who have now captured 30 of their last 35 outings, as well as 15 of their last 16 at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. North Georgia (10-14, 8-10) has now dropped five-straight outings away from home and eight of the last nine matchups in the series with the Black & Gold.

Akia Pruitt registered a game-high 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting for the Braves, while complementing his offensive prowess with eight rebounds, four blocks and a pair of assists. James Murray-Boyles came off the bench to chip in 19 points and nine boards in just 16 minutes of action.

Bennett Fuzak tallied 16 points to lead the Nighthawks who shot just 37.1 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from the free throw line in the outing. Ephraim Tshimanga added a dozen points for the visitors as well.

The Braves connected on nine of their first 11 shots from the field and led 13-2 just less than 3-1/2 minutes into the game. Pruitt's dunk at the 9:04 mark in the first period sparked the Braves on a 33-5 run that gave the hosts a 60-22 advantage with two minutes left before the intermission.

UNCP reached the century mark on Bryson Hall's layup with 1:15 left to play to give the Black & Gold its first 100-point outing against a Peach Belt Conference opponent since a 115-92 win at Armstrong on Feb. 21, 2015. It was the largest margin of victory over a league foe in school history for the Braves, besting out a 91-63 win for the club at Flagler earlier this season.

The Braves will be back in action again on Wednesday when they close out a three-game home stand against USC Aiken (12-9, 9-8) in the back half of a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader at
Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. UNCP registered a 93-87 win over the Pacers earlier this season in Aiken, S.C.
