Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 24 Men’s Basketball Runs Past Georgia Southwestern In PBC Quarterfinals

PEMBROKEAkia Pruitt scored a team-best 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting and the second-seeded and 24th-ranked UNC Pembroke men's basketball team led for nearly 39-1/2 minutes on the way to a 70-54 victory over seventh-seeded Georgia Southwestern in the quarterfinal round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament.

The victory helped the Braves (24-5) match a school record with their 15th home victory of the season, while also moving the club to 8-4 in PBC Tournament games under the direction of head coach Ben Miller. The Hurricanes (13-14) fell to 1-4 all-time in the PBC Tournament, including a 0-3 mark against the Black & Gold.

Micah Kinsey chipped in a dozen points on 5-of-7 shooting for the hosts as well, while also adding five assists, three rebounds and a pair of blocks. James Murray-Boyles came off the bench to add 15 points as well.

Hasaan Buggs tallied a game-best 18 points for Georgia Southwestern who hurt their cause with 34.5 percent shooting in the first period. R.J. Sessions added 14 points in the setback as well.

The Hurricanes canned eight of their first 10 field goal attempts in the second half and whittled a 14-point halftime deficit down to just four, 50-46, on a 3-pointer from Andre Statam with 10 minutes to play. Kinsey's layup at the 5:47 mark, however, would spark the Black & Gold on a 15-2 run that sealed the outcome.

A tight game for the first nine minutes of play, UNCP pushed its lead out to double digits on a dunk by Pruitt at the 8:47 mark, and then closed out the half with six-straight points to take a 34-20 advantage into the locker rooms.

The Braves will face third-seeded Francis Marion (20-8) in the semifinals of the PBC Tournament on Saturday inside Clayton State's Athletic & Fitness Center (The Loch).
Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
