No. 29 Georgia College Clinches Weekend With No. 25 Baseball

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The 25th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team rallied for five runs on six hits to forge a 7-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning, but 29th-ranked Georgia College erupted for 14 runs in their next three at-bats to key a series-clinching 18-7 win over the Braves in the front end of a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at John Kurtz Field.

Ethan Baucom hit his team-leading sixth home run of the season and drove in a trio of runs to lead the Braves (18-7. 6-7 PBC) who also got a 3-for-5 outing from Luke Jackson. Five players turned in three hits apiece for the Bobcats (20-7, 15-2), including Matthew Miller who homered and scored twice in the triumph.

Hank Simpson (2-2) surrendered five earned runs on six hits in just two innings of relief to saddle the loss for the Black & Gold. Bradley Cammack (7-1) was pummeled for five hits and three runs in his opening inning of relief work, but used another boost from his offense to pick up his second win of the series.

Georgia College scored a pair of runs in the third to take its second lead of the contest, but the Braves needed just eight at-bats in the fifth to go back in front with a comfortable 7-3 advantage.

The Bobcats would halve its deficit on the shoulders of a 2-run double from Stallings in the bottom of the frame, however, and then went back out in front for good on the strength of a 6-run sixth inning. Georgia College would plate six insurance runs in the seventh, before capping the offense on a RBI double from Stallings in the eighth.
