No. 29 Georgia College Finishes Off Sweep Of No. 25 Baseball

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Logan Mattix hit a 3-run home run with one out in the first inning to give 29th-ranked Georgia College a lead it would not relinquish as the Bobcats finished off a weekend sweep of the 25th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team with an 11-2 win over the Braves on Saturday evening at John Kurtz Field.

Trevor Clemons doubled and drove in a run on a 2-for-3 plate performance to pace the Braves (18-8, 6-8 PBC), while Jarratt Mobley doubled and scored on a 2-for-3 outing as well. Six players registered multiple-hit showings for the Bobcats (21-7, 16-2), including a 3-for-5, 4-RBI day by Mattix.

Starter Trace Hagler (2-1) allowed five earned runs on four extra-base hits in just one innings of work to take the loss for the Braves who used six pitchers in the outing. Chandler Amason (2-1) grabbed the win in relief for the Bobcats, while Logan Howard tacked up his third save of the campaign.

The Bobcats led 6-0 before the Braves got run-scoring knocks from both Roberto Rivera and Clemons to climb back into the contest. Georgia College, however, would score a pair of runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to pull away.

The Braves will open up a seven-game home stand on Tuesday when they take on Chowan (9-12-1) in a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Sammy Cox Field.
