8-Run Sixth Inning Fuels No. 15 Baseball’s Rout Of Coker

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The 15th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team pounded out 18 hits and scored 15 times behind a seven-armed pitching staff and the Braves cruised to a 15-5 victory over Coker on Wednesday afternoon at Tom J. New Field.

Six players registered multi-hit days at the plate for the Braves (13-3) including Jarratt Mobley (4-for-5, 3 R) who singled four times on five trips to the plate. Trey Jacobs drove in four runs on a 3-for-6 hitting line, while Connor Grainer (3-for-5, 3 RBI) and Ethan Baucom (3-for-5, RBI) turned in a trio of hits as well.

K.J. Curry doubled and scored twice on a 3-for-5 day at the plate for the Cobras (9-8).

Aaron Biggerstaff (3-0) emerged from the dust to earn his third win of the season in relief for the Black & Gold after allowing one hit and a walk in a scoreless fifth inning. Jon Koski (0-1) surrendered eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits in 5-2/3 innings of work to take the loss for Coker.

Connor Cleary gave the hosts a 3-2 lead on a RBI groundout in the fourth, but the Braves sent a dozen batters to the plate amidst an 8-run sixth inning that gave them the lead for good. The Black & Gold tacked up two more runs in the seventh and three in in the ninth to finish off the onslaught.
