DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The 21
st-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team rallied all the way back from an early three-run deficit to take the lead in the sixth, but North Georgia rallied for four runs in their next three at-bats to post a 7-4 series-evening win over the Braves on Saturday at Bob Stein Stadium.
Roberto Rivera (2-for-3, R) singled twice and scored once on three trips to the plate to lead the way for the UNCP (28-11, 11-11 PBC) offense, while
Luke Jackson drove in and scored a run on a 1-for-4 plate performance.
Andres Perez walked, homered and drove in four runs on a 2-for-4 day for the Nighthawks (22-15, 14-9). Four other players turned in multi-hit days at the plate for the hosts as well, including a 3-for-4 outing by Chase Sudduth.
Aaron Biggerstaff (3-1) struck out two in 1-1/3 innings of relief for the Black & Gold, but was tagged with the loss after also allowing two hits and as many earned runs. Logan Burt (3-1) did just enough in two innings of relief to pick up the win for North Georgia, while Parker Morrison tallied his ninth save by recording the game's final five outs.
Perez hit a 3-run homer in an explosive first inning for the Nighthawks but UNCP erupted after five relatively quiet innings to tack up four runs in the sixth and take its first lead of the contest. The Nighthawks rallied to tie the score in the bottom of the frame thanks to doubles from both Bill Leroy and Jake Arnold, and then took the lead for good on Joshua Profit's one-out RBI single in the seventh.
