Sarah Morden broke the school record in the 200-yard Breaststroke by more than five seconds, and then swam the second leg on the school record-breaking 400-yard Medley Relay team, but the UNC Pembroke swimming team fell to both Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill on Friday evening inside LRU's Shuford Center.
The Braves fell to the host Bears, 131-113, and dropped a 162-92 matchup to Mars Hill.
Reigning Mountain East Conference Swimmer of the Week
Ketlyn Rodriguez Matos added another school record to her collegiate resume as well by busting former UNCP standout Gaoqi Zhang's nearly 3-year-old school record in the 200-yard Butterfly by nearly 13 seconds.
Morden teamed up with
Jaycie Knight,
Bianca Bateman and newcomer
Natalia Sarmiento to eclipse the school record in the 400-yard Medley Relay team by nearly six seconds.
The Black & Gold registered runner-up finishes in seven events at the Lenoir-Rhyne Tri-Meet. Rodriguez Matos posted second-place showings in the 200-yard Freestyle, as well as the 100- and 200-yard Butterfly events. Morden tallied runner-up finishes in the 100- and 200-yard Breastroke, while junior
Megan Hunter finished second in the 1000-yard Freestyle.
The Braves will be back in action again on October 25 when they make the short trip to Buies Creek to battle Campbell inside the Johnson Aquatic Center. The first event is scheduled for 5 p.m.
