CHARLOTTE – Freshman
Ketlyn Rodriguez Matos staked claim to a pair of individual school records, while also contributing to another relay record, to help the UNC Pembroke swimming team wrap up a successful weekend at the Queens-hosted Fall Frenzy Invitational on Sunday.
Rodriguez Matos took aim on the program's record books in the morning session, eclipsing teammate
Sarah Morden's 1-month-old superlative in the 200-yard Breaststroke by more than 13 seconds. The Puerto Rico native swam the opening leg of the 400-yard Freestyle Relay in the evening session, and that quartet – Rodriguez Matos,
Jaycie Knight,
Sarah Morden and
Bianca Bateman – shattered a 9-month-old school record by 4.20 seconds.
Rodriguez Matos busted another school record as part of the relay. Her opening leg time of 55.33 seconds was 0.93 seconds faster than her previous record mark that was established on October 5 at the Guilford College Invitational.
Mary Thorn topped her previous personal best time in the 200-yard Backstroke to headline a list of seven personal-best marks on the day. Bateman, Morden and
Karina Ramosbarbosa all set personal records in the 100-yard Freestyle, as did Morden,
Ignayara Hernandez Martinez and
Alyssa Ramosbarbosa in the 200-yard Breaststroke.
UNCP will now take a nearly two-month break from competition before resuming its 2019-20 schedule on January 18 at the Converse Tri-Meet. The Braves will face St. Andrews in their regular season finale four days later.
