Softball Perfect In Game One, Sweeps Elizabeth City State

PEMBROKE – Malerie Leviner and Breezy Yelton combined to throw a perfect game in the opener, and the UNC Pembroke softball team combined for 21 runs on the day to post a pair of five-inning run-rule victories, 10-0 and 11-3, over Elizabeth City State on Sunday.

Mary Sells combined to register four hits across the twinbill, including a 3-for-4, 2-RBI performance in the nightcap. She got the offense started in the front half of the doubleheader with a RBI triple in the first. Jordan Adcox hit a 2-run homer to left field in the first game as well.

Leviner (3-2) started on the rubber for the Black & Gold and struck out six of the nine batters she faced over her three innings of work before giving way to Breezy Yetlon who earned the save after striking out a pair of Vikings (0-2) in two innings of work.

Raygan Larson (1-1) earned the win in game two with four effective innings, while Tatum Brummitt worked a scoreless fifth in which she allowed just a lone hit.

UNCP earned nine free passes (seven walks) in game one and four more (three walks) in game two, while also combining for 18 hits on the day. The Braves sent nine batters to the plate on the way to tacking up eight runs in the first inning, and then capped the scoring in game one with two more scores in the second.

Elizabeth City State picked up their first hit of the doubleheader in game two, while also striking first with a run thanks to an error and a wild pitch. The Vikings strung together three hits in the third inning and added two more runs. UNCP would do most of its damage early in game two, striking for multiple runs in each of the first three frames.

The Braves will hit the road again on Wednesday when they face Queens (3-1) at Park Road Park in Charlotte. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
