Coker Holds Down Softball In Doubleheader Sweep

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The UNC Pembroke softball team was mustered just four hits across both ends of the twinbill as Coker swept the Braves on Tuesday evening at the Saleeby-Stokes Field. The Braves dropped game one, 5-1, and lost the second game of the nightcap, 9-1 in six innings.

The setbacks marked the first action in 10 days for UNCP (8-12) who saw its losing skid stretched out to four games as well. The Cobras (19-4) have now captured six of their last seven outings.

BOT 4 Coker put a pair of runners into scoring position with its first two at-bats of the frame, and then took a 2-1 lead on a single by Allyson High.
BOT 4 Leadoff batter Madison King reached on an error by the Braves, and moved into position on a stolen base moments later. A RBI single from Anna Gluhosky tacked up another run for the hosts to cushion the lead.
TOP 6 Rendi Wetherington reached via a hit by pitch to lead off the inning, and a one-out single by Cameron Davis allowed the Braves to threaten, but Jordan Adcox hit into a double play to end the frame.
BOT 6 Coker used a pair of errors to tack up a pair of unearned insurance runs. The hosts capped the scoring in game one on a two-out RBI single by pinch hitter Lauren DeWitt.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 3 Makayle Shore led off the inning with a solo homer as the Cobras sent 10 batters to the plate in a six-run frame.
