Softball Splits Non-Conference Outing With Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Limestone used a RBI single in the bottom of the 7th inning to take the opener of the twinbill, 6-5, but the UNC Pembroke softball team tacked up their best offensive day in more than a month to capture game two, 10-7, and forge a series split with the Saints on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The triumph in the nightcap snapped a nine-game losing streak for the Braves (9-17) who registered their most runs since an 11-3 victory over Elizabeth City State on February 10. It was the fifth loss in the last seven outings for the Saints (11-13) who are in the midst of a scheduled 14-game home stand.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 3 Infield singles by Kat Tate and Ashley Parnell put runners at first and second with two outs for the Saints. A bases clearing triple to right field from Vic Brewington gave them a 2-0 advantage.
BOT 4 Brianna Dunn (bunt) and Chloe Thomas (fielder's choice) both climbed aboard for the hosts to set the table for a bomb from Kat Tate that pushed the lead out to 5-0. 
TOP 5 Chloe' Radford led off the inning with a double, and Lauren Hilbourn drew a five-pitch walk to put a pair of runners aboard for the visitors, before Shelby Thomas sent one out of the park to cut UNCP's deficit to two runs, 5-3. The offensive spark continued with a single from Mary Sells followed by a two-run homer from Tatum Brummitt that knotted up the score.
TOP 7 Vic Brewington tagged a 1-and-2 offering over the fence in right field to give the hosts the walk-off win.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1 Vic Brewinton's RBI single gave Limestone the early advantage, but Audra Butler hit a two-run home run over the left field fence to continue the offensive surge for the Saints. Haley Crouch singled and Kat Tate reached on an error to set the table for a two-run double from Macie Parker that gave the hosts a 5-0 lead.
TOP 2 Jordan Adcox led crushed a 2-ball offering from Limestone starter Haley White over the fence in left field.
TOP 4 Chloe' Radford's double to right field scored Alex Watkins and Tatum Brummitt who both reached on singles, and Shelby Thomas made it a one-run game with a RBI single that plated Radford from second base.
TOP 5 Rendi Wetherington legged out an infield single to lead off the frame, and moved into scoring position on a stolen base and stole second on the next pitch. Mary Sells ripped a double through the middle of the infield to easily score the run, and Alex Watkins gave UNCP its first lead of the day on a RBI double down the left field line.
BOT 5 Vic Brewington registered a one-out double, and Audra Butler gave the lead back to the hosts two batters later when she sent a hard hit ball over the fence in left field.
TOP 7 UNCP used a single from Jordan Adcox and a pair of free passes to load the bases with its first three at-bats, before Lauren Hilbourn drew a one-out walk to force home the eventual game-winning run. Rendi Wetherington's two-out double later in the frame tacked up a pair of insurance runs for the Braves.
