Softball Swept In Twinbill At Georgia College

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The UNC Pembroke softball team used a grand slam in the fifth inning of game one to tie the score, but were unable to hang on to the offensive momentum en route to being swept by Georgia College on Sunday afternoon. The Braves dropped game one, 8-5, and fell to the Bobcats, 9-6, in game two of the twinbill.
 
The Braves (9-19, 0-6 PBC) collected 18 combined hits on the afternoon, but stayed winless in Peach Belt Conference play through six games. It was the eighth-straight victory for the Bobcats (26-10, 5-1 PBC).

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 1 Georgia College drew three walks in the first frame and added a two-run double to the gap in left field from Haley Howell, as well as a RBI single down the left field line from Hannah Rogers, to tack on three runs. 
TOP 3 Rendi Wetherington (single), Tatum Brummitt (single), and Jordan Adcox (walk) loaded the bases for the Braves. Jessica Auld wore a pitch and picked up a RBI in the process to put UNCP on the board. 
BOT 4 A sac bunt by Darby Pinkard advanced pinch runner Skyler Welford to second. An RBI single by Caroline Snider and a fielding error gave the Bobcats a 5-1 lead. 
TOP 5 The Braves loaded the bases once again with two walks and a single but, this time, Jessica Auld cleared the bases with a grand slam to left field.
BOT 5 Jessie Barre led off the frame off with a single to the gap in left field and stole second. Darby Pinkard singled up the middle to add an insurance run for Georgia College. 
BOT 6 Georgia College laid down three bunts in the inning and plated two runs by virtue of an error and a wild pitch. 
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1 The first two batters for Georgia College reached base and moved into scoring position. Caroline Snider's sac bunt and Ariel Edenfield's single gave the hosts an early 2-0 advantage.   
BOT 2  A single and back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Georgia College. Another walk and fielding error plated two Bobcats, followed by a fielder's choice to finish off the 3-run frame.
TOP 3 Alyssa Price singled up the middle, and Rendi Wetherington put the Braves on the board with a two-run homer to left field.  
TOP 5 Rendi Wetherington legged out an infield single to lead off the frame, and moved to third base on a stolen base and an ensuing wild pitch. Jordan Adcox knocked a RBI single to left field, and Jessica Auld followed with an infield single. Alex Watkins cleared the bases with a dinger to left field to give UNCP their first lead of the day, 6-5. 
BOT 6 Sarah Couch walked and moved into scoring position with a sac bunt by Amber Coy. Caroline Snider singled through the infield to score Couch. The hosts recorded two singles and a triple in the following at-bats to stretch their lead out to 9-6.

The Braves will make the short trip to Fayetteville on Wednesday to take on Fayetteville State (3-17) at Lamon Street Park. First pitch of the non-conference twinbill is scheduled for 2 p.m.
