Softball Blanks Fayetteville State In Non-Conference Twinbill

FAYETTEVILLE – The UNC Pembroke softball team pounded out 16 hits, including a pair of home runs in the opener, to fuel a twinbill sweep over Fayetteville State on Wednesday afternoon. The Braves won game one 5-0, and captured game two of the twinbill, 2-0.
 
The results finished off a four-game season series sweep for the Braves (11-19) who tacked up their fourth and fifth shutouts of the campaign as well. The setback marked the fourth straight loss for the Broncos (3-19) who have now gone scoreless in 28-straight innings.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 4 Rendi Wetherington led off the frame with a standup double to center field, and Jordan Adcox lit up the scoreboard with a two-run homer that gave the Braves an early advantage.
TOP 6 Rendi Wetherington continued to find success at the plate with a leadoff bomb to left field. Jordan Adcox and Tatum Brummitt knocked back-to-back doubles to tack on an insurance run.
TOP 7 Carleigh Brooks laid down a bunt single and moved to third on back-to-back ground outs. Rendi Wetherington reached on an error to plate Brooks and cap the scoring in the contest.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 1 Rendi Wetherington drew a walk to start the game and quickly moved to third with a pair of stolen bases. Wetherington scored on a costly error by the Broncos, and Alex Watkins recorded the only hit of the inning for the Braves with an RBI single to left field.
