Softball Splits Key PBC Double Dip With Francis Marion

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke softball team used big bats in the first inning to key a series-opening win against Francis Marion, 2-1, but the Patriots  put together a five-run 7thinning in the second game to fuel a 7-1 victory and forge a doubleheader split with the Braves on Tuesday afternoon. 
 
The Braves (19-23, 6-10 PBC) have now captured 10 of their last 14 matchups, including six against league foes. The Patriots (29-18, 8-10 PBC) snapped a four-game losing streak in the series with UNCP on the shoulders of the win in game two.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 1 A double in the gap from Rendi Wetherington started the day for the Braves. Jordan Adcox smacked a triple down the right field line to plate one, and Cameron Davis singled to right field to cap off the two-run inning. 
TOP 6 Danielle Karacson reached on a double to right center field and advanced to third on a groundout. The Patriots scored their only run of the game on an ill-timed passed ball later in the frame.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 2 Jessica Harney lit up the scoreboard with a solo home run to left field to give the visitors the early advantage.
BOT 3 Rendi Wetherington singled to right field and advanced to second on a sac bunt from Mary Sells. Jordan Adcox crushed a doubled to centerfield to knot the score back up. 
TOP 5 Jennie Polak (fielder's choice) and Taylor DeLeon (walk) each reached base, and a single from Taylor Johnson put the Patriots back on top, 2-1. 
TOP 7 Jennie Polak legged out an infield single, and pinch hitter Addie May hit a two-run dinger to centerfield. Taylor Johnson (double) and Danielle Karacson (walk) did not stay on base long before Jessica Harney capped off the five-run frame with a three-run homer to center field.

The Braves will be back in action again on Wednesday when they head to Charlotte to take on Johnson C. Smith  (12-10) at Biddleville Park. First pitch of the twinbill is scheduled for 2 p.m.
