Bats Stay Hot For Softball In Sweep Of Johnson C. Smith

CHARLOTTE – The UNC Pembroke softball team registered its 14th and 15th double-digit hit attacks of the season and rallied back from early deficits in both games to post a doubleheader sweep at Johnson C. Smith on Wednesday. The Braves won game one, 8-2, and took the back half of the twinbill, 12-4 in 5 innings.
 
The Braves (21-23) have now captured 12 of their last 16 matchups, and put the wraps on a 15-16 non-conference slate with Wednesday's victories as well. The setback snapped an eight-game win streak for the Golden Bulls (12-12) whose last loss came on March 23.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 2 The Golden Bulls loaded the bases with their first three at-bats of the afternoon. A single to the gap in right field by Paige Brockington plated two to give Johnson C. Smith an early advantage.
TOP 3 Shelby Thomas drew a nine-pitch walk and Alyssa Price followed with a bunt single to get something going for the visitors. Rendi Wetherington advanced both runners on a sac bunt, and Kaitlynn Norton smacked an RBI single to knot the score back up. 
TOP 4 Shelby Thomas laced a single into right field to score Tatum Brummitt who had reached on a fielder's choice, and Alyssa Price crushed a RBI triple to centerfield bust the game wide open. The Braves capped off the three-run inning on a RBI single from Rendi Wetherington.
TOP 5 Pinch runner Carson Powell scored on a double from Tatum Brummitt, and Lauren Hilbourn registered a RBI single to put the Braves on top, 7-2. 
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1 Kaitlyn Santos (single), Alexis D'Louhy (single) moved into scoring position on a sac bunt, and Evelyn Arguelles singled up the middle to plate two runs. Sanae NaKoa followed with a walk, and Paige Brockington doubled down the left field line to put Johnson C. Smith up 4-0. 
TOP 3 Rendi Wetherington doubled to the gap in right field and eventually scored when Kaitlynn Norton reached on a three-base error. Back-to-back RBI doubles from Jordan Adcox and Cameron Davis cut the deficit back to 4-3. 
TOP 5 Rendi Wetherington led off the frame with a single and advanced to third when Kailtynn Norton reached on an error. The nine-run frame was highlighted by a triple from Lauren Hilbourn, a three-run bomb from Alyssa Price and a bases-clearing double from Jordan Adcox.
