Softball Takes Game One, Splits Twinbill At Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The UNC Pembroke softball team rallied back from a late 2-0 deficit to secure a victory in game one, but dropped the back half of the twinbill in run-rule fashion on Saturday afternoon on the way to a series split at Augusta. The Braves won game one, 4-2, but dropped game two, 8-0 in 5 innings.
 
The loss in game two snapped a three-game win streak for the Braves (22-24) who fill close out the regular season portion of their 2019 schedule on Friday at Columbus State. The Jaguars (9-35, 3-15PBC) improved to 7-17 at home this season, while also tacking up their third Peach Belt Conference win of the campaign as well.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 4 Meredith McLendon beat out the throw on an infield single and advanced to second on a sac bunt. Lydia Hausman doubled down the right field line to plate the first run of the game
BOT 5 Oliva Biles drew a one-out walk to load the bases for Augusta. An ill-timed error with two outs allowed Regan Norfleet to score with the 2-0 lead for the hosts.
TOP 6 Mary Sells singled to left field and scored as Cameron Davis cleared the bases with a home run that knotted the score at 2-2. The Braves took their first lead of the day on a fielder's choice from Tatum Brummitt that scored pinch runner Carson Powell.
TOP 7 The Braves loaded the bases and added an insurance run when Kaitlynn Norton drew a walk to force a run home.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1 Regan Norfleet singled to left field to lead off the frame and advanced to third after a costly error by the Braves. Augusta jumped on the board early with a sac fly to right field that scored the first run.
BOT 4 Augusta pounded out six singles and one double on the way to scoring seven more runs and putting the mercy rule clause into effect.

The Braves will travel to Columbus, Ga., on Friday to finish out the regular season with a doubleheader at Columbus State  (31-13, 11-3 PBC). First pitch of the twinbill is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Cougar Field.
