LAURINBURG – The UNC Pembroke swimming team won 11 of the meet's 15 events and eclipsed six school records on the way to a dominating 212-48 victory over St. Andrews on Wednesday evening in Laurinburg.
 
Newcomer Nathalia Silva had a hand in three school records, including two as part of the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay squad. The quartet of Silva, as well as fellow newcomers Sarah Morden, Natalia Sarmiento and Ketlyn Rodriguez Matos, toppled a year-old school record with their combined time of 8:24.41, while Silva posted a new program mark in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 25.79 in the leadoff leg of the relay. The Brazilian also shattered a nearly 2-year-old school record in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle event as well.
 
Junior Victoria Brousseau broke a school record with a time of 33.42 in the 50 Yard Breaststroke – a mark that had been in place since the 2017-18 season opener – while freshman Jena Wise wiped a 2-1/2-year-old school record in the 50 Yard Butterfly with a time of 29.07. Rodriguez Matos added another program mark to her collegiate resume as well when she beat the school record in the 100 Yard Butterfly by 0.29 seconds.
 
The Braves will now enjoy a more than three-week break from competition before resuming their 2019-20 schedule, Feb. 12-15, at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference/Mountain East Conference Championships in Canton, Ohio.
