Baseball Rallies Past Shepherd In Season Opener

PEMBROKE – Bobby Dixon hit a go-ahead homer in the seventh to help support a clutch relief outing from Landen Smith that gave the UNC Pembroke baseball team a come-from-behind 5-2 victory over Shepherd in the season opener for both teams on Friday at Sammy Cox Field.
 
It was the 14th-straight season-opening win for the Braves (1-0) who improved to 19-1 in season openers under the direction of head coach Paul O'Neil. The result marked the eighth-straight series loss for the Rams (0-1) who have opened their last four campaigns at Sammy Cox Field.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 2 River Ryan reached on a two-strike single to right field, and eventually scored on a two-out passed ball to give the Braves the first lead.
TOP 5 The Rams loaded the bases with three consecutive one-out walks, and eventually tied the game on Jared Carr's two-strike single to left field. Joey Goldsmith's single two batters later swung the lead over to the visitors.
BOT 7 Trevor Clemons (walk) and Ethan Baucom (hit by pitch) both reached with one out in the seventh, and Bobby Dixon broke a 2-2 tie when he hammered a 0-and-1 offering from reliever Cole Dunn over the fence in left field.
