SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Ketlyn Rodriquez Matos and Mariel Mencia Martinez combined to bust a trio of school records and the UNC Pembroke swimming team captured eight event titles on the way to doubling up Converse, 132-66, in the season opener for the Braves on Saturday afternoon inside the Marsha Gibbs Fieldhouse.
 
Rodriguez Matos shattered her own school record in the 200 Yard Individual Medley by nearly six seconds, and then toppled teammate Sarah Morden's mark in the 100 Breaststroke en route to a pair of event titles on the day. Mencia Martinez toppled her own school record in the 50 Yard Freestyle, while also finishing atop the field in the 100 Yard Freestyle as well. Both sophomores played a part event titles for both the 200 and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay squads as well.
 
Reigning Mountain East Conference Swimmer of the Year Nathalia Silva climbed to the top of the podium in the 500 Yard Freestyle. The Braves also captured the first event of the day with a mark of 1:55.56 in the 200 Yard Medley Relay.
 
UNCP will now take a 2-month hiatus from competition before resuming their 2020-21 slate on January 7 at the Queens Tri-Meet. The Braves are slated to battle both Catawba and the top-ranked Royals at that event.
