Queens Sweeps Wednesday Twinbill With Softball

PEMBROKE – Visiting Queens belted four home runs to fuel a 5-0 win in the front half of the doubleheader with the UNC Pembroke softball team, and then captured an extra-inning win over the Braves in the nightcap to complete the sweep on Wednesday evening at the UNCP Softball Field.
 
It was the third-straight series loss for the Braves (4-6) who fell to 4-4 at home this season with the results as well. Queens (4-4) has now captured five-straight games in Pembroke, and has now won three of its last four road outings as well.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 1 McKenzie McCullen drew a two-out walk, and Kayla Smith lit up the scoreboard with a 2-run homer to left field.
TOP 4 Alyssa Stickler sent one over the left field fence to put Queens up 3-0.
TOP 7 Kelly Winter and McKenzie McCullen both sent pitches out of the park to cap the scoring in the contest.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1 Jordan Adcox drew a walk and scored on a double to centerfield from Tatum Brummitt.
TOP 7 Queens put runners on first and second with a bunt and a single to the gap in centerfield. McKenzie McCullen singled to the right side to score the tying run.
TOP 8 Queens loaded the bases with its first three at-bats of the frame, a fielder's choice and Kelly Winter singled home the eventual game-winning run. Amiscue at home plate by the hosts gave the Royals a 3-1 advantage.
