Columbus State Takes Series Opener With Baseball

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Columbus State tallied 10 hits and scored eight times behind a solid performance from southpaw Jalen Latta to lift the Cougars to an 8-1 win over the Braves in Friday's series opener at Ragsdale Field.
 
The setback snapped a three-game win streak for the Braves (6-3, 0-1 PBC) who fell to 15-5 in Peach Belt Conference openers under head coach Paul O'Neil. The Cougars (6-2, 1-0) have now captured three-straight games against the Black & Gold at home.

BOT 1 UNCP starter Bucky Bonynge sat down the first two Cougars he faced in the frame, but David Meadows and Isaac Bouton followed with singles that set the table for a two-run triple from Robert Brooks.
