Columbus State Clinches Weekend Series With Baseball

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Home-standing Columbus State pounded out 14 hits, including a pair of home runs from Bryson Horne, and tacked up four multi-run innings to fuel a series-clinching 11-6 win over the UNC Pembroke baseball team on Saturday at Ragsdale Field.
 
The outcome gave the Braves (6-4, 0-2 PBC) consecutive losses for the first time this season, while also handing UNCP its first weekend series loss of the 2020 campaign as well. It was the second-straight win for the Cougars (7-2, 2-0) who improved to 4-1 at Burger King Stadium this season.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 4 The Braves got two-out singles from both River Ryan and Alex Simpson, and then knotted the game up at two runs apiece on Bobby Dixon's two-run double down the left field line.
BOT 4 Columbus State retook the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, including a two-run single from David Meadows with two outs showing.
TOP 5 Trevor Clemons climbed aboard with a one-out double to the gap in left field, and Gage Hammonds evened the game up again with a home run over the fence in left field.
BOT 5 Drew Webb legged out an infield single with one out to get a pair of runners aboard for the Cougars and chase UNCP starter Jalen Scott from the hill. Dane Bullock hit a two-strike double down the left field line minutes later to give the host the lead for good.
