Columbus State Clinches Weekend Series With Baseball

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The UNC Pembroke baseball team amassed 13 hits, including home runs from three different players, and the Braves avoided a series sweep at Columbus State with an 8-5 victory over the Cougars on Sunday afternoon at Ragsdale Field.
 
The result stopped a two-game slide for the Braves (7-4, 1-2 PBC), and gave the Black & Gold its first victory at Ragsdale Field since the 2016 campaign. It was just the second loss in the last six contests for Columbus State (7-3, 2-1).

KEY INNINGS
TOP 5 Garrett Littleton drew a one-out walk and Ethan Baucom followed with a single through the left side to set the table for a 3-run blast from Gage Hammonds that cleared the wall in left field and put the Braves up for good.
BOT 6 The Cougars carved into a 6-2 deficit with two scores in the sixth. Robert Brooks hit a leadoff single for the hosts, and Columbus State lit up the scoreboard again on Drew Webb's homer to centerfield.
TOP 7 Bobby Dixon added an insurance run for the Black & Gold with a RBI single through the left side that plated Ethan Baucom from second base.
TOP 8 UNCP got another insurance run in the eighth, this time on Alex Simpson's second home run of the afternoon.
