CANTON, Ohio – Freshman
Ketlyn Rodriguez Matos registered a school-record time of 4:42.03 on the way to third place honors in the 400-yard Individual Medley and the UNC Pembroke swimming team eclipsed a quintet of program superlatives on the second day of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference/Mountain East Conference Championships.
Freshmen
Mariel Mencia Martinez,
Nathalia Silva and
Jena Wise teamed up with veteran Bianca Batemen to bust the school record in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:40.53 and a fifth place finish. Mencia Martinez shattered the program mark in the 100-yard Butterfly and post a fourth-place showing, while Silva eclipsed the school record by nearly 3-1/2 seconds and touched in fifth place in the finals of the 200-yard Freestyle.
The evening was capped by another school record performance by a UNCP relay team. The 400 Medley Relay squad –
Jaycie Knight, Rodriguez Matos, Bateman and
Megan Hunter – obliterated the 4-month-old school record in the event by more than eight seconds on the way to sixth place.
The four-day GMAC/MEC Championships will continue on Friday morning. The prelims of the 500-yard Freestyle event are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
