Softball Completes Sweep Of Barton With Shutout

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke softball team tallied 21 hits, including six extra-base knocks, and logged its second shutout of the season in a non-conference sweep over visiting Barton on Wednesday afternoon at the UNCP Softball Field. The Braves captured game one of the twinbill, 6-3, and then completed the sweep with an 8-0 victory in six innings in the nightcap.
 
The sweep helped the Braves (8-8) push their win streak out to four games, while also giving the Black & Gold its fifth- and sixth-straight victories over Barton in Pembroke. The Bulldogs (4-8) have now lost their last eight games and fell to 0-4 on the road.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 2 UNC Pembroke used back-to-back homers from Tatum Brummitt and Jordan Adcox to take a quick 2-0 lead in the second.
BOT 3 The Braves stretched their lead out to four runs on a RBI single from Alex Watkins, as well as a suicide squeeze bunt from Tatum Brummitt. Rendi Wetherington (walk) and Mary Sells (single) both reached to lead off the frame and eventually scored.
TOP 4 Barton put a pair of runners in scoring position with its first two at-bats, and then came out on the winning end of a rundown to plate its first run. The Bulldogs cut their deficit in half when they utilized a UNCP error to bring home another run.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 2 Jordan Adcox doubled to the gap in left field and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Kaitlynn Norton's bunt single completed the scoring opportunity to give the Braves the lead for good.
BOT 4 UNCP strung together three-straight one-out singles, including a RBI knock from Lauren Baker that scored Kaitlynn Norton. Rendi Wetherington made it a 5-0 game with a 3-run home run to centerfield in the next at-bat.
