Softball Sweeps Limestone In Autism Awareness Series

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke softball sent three balls out of the park and used a walk-off sacrifice fly from Kaitlynn Norton in the bottom of the seventh in the nightcap to secure a non-conference sweep of visiting Limestone on Friday afternoon at the UNCP Softball Field. The Braves captured game one of the twinbill, 7-2, and then completed the sweep with an 8-7 victory in the back half of the double dip.
 
The sweep helped the Braves (10-8) push their win streak out to six games, while also giving the Black & Gold its second- and third-straight victories over Limestone in Pembroke. The Saints (8-8) have now lost their last five contests.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 2 Audra Butler smacked a single up the middle and advanced to second on a groundout. Chloe Thomas singled to left field to plate the first run of the game and put Limestone ahead early, 1-0.
BOT 2 The Braves responded with a two-out solo homer from Kaitlynn Norton that knotted things back up.
BOT 5 The hosts started a 4-run frame with a solo home run to centerfield from Alex Watkins. The next three batters reached base safely, including an infield RBI single from Emily Biddle, and Kaitlynn Norton produced a pair of runs with her at-bat, including an errant throw that brought the fourth and final run of the inning across the plate.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 5 UNCP sent its entire order to the plate on the way to tacking up a 5-spot and building a 7-2 lead. Jordan Adcox pushed the lead out to 5-2 on a two-run single to centerfield, and Emily Biddle cleared the bases two at-bats later to pad the advantage.
TOP 6 Madison Chappell singled to the outfield gap, and Jordan Howe sent one out of the park to cut Limestone's deficit to 7-4.
TOP 7 The Saints put runners on the corners and a throwing error by the Braves plated one runn. Eryn Butler smacked a two-run dinger with the next at-bat to knot the score at 7-7.
BOT 7 Tatum Brummitt drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. After Jordan Adcox moved Brummitt 60 feet away with a sacrifice bunt, a long sacrifice fly to left field from Kaitlynn Norton brought Brummitt scampering home from third with the game-winner.
